On My Days & In My Mind (by Rungaroon Plintron)

เล่าสู่กันฟังในวันว่างๆ (โดย รุ่งอรุณ ผลินธร)

More Than Just Friend (พี่เพ็ญ ภาคภาษาอังกฤษ)

First of all, please let me tell you about this journal.  My dear friend, Pee Pen (Mrs. Boorat Adams) would like me to compose her impression and appreciation about all of her friends into words.   There are many words of thanks to Pee Dang (Pee Pen’s  close friend) and all other friends, who support and encourage Pee Pen during her tough time.   You may wonder why Pee Pen doesn’t write by herself.  As of now,  Pee Pen is sick and she still under the doctor’s treatment.  Pee Pen has intentionally chosen me to keep on her journal, and I’m very happy to do as her wish because she is more than just my friend, but also my sister in Christ.

Many of Thai people, who come to live in USA, have different stories and their lives experience; it depends on which way they choose to live on.  Let me back to Pee Pen and a little bit about her background.

When Pee Pen was about 11 years old, her father died.  Her mother, two older sisters, Pee Pen and two younger sisters had to work very hard for surviving.  All of them had to wake up 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. to start their new day in the rubber plant until 11:00 a.m. or about noon then all return home to do other house errands.   Although those days were hard working days, five sisters were happy with love and care for each other.

One by one of them left family after each one had married.  Pee Pen’s first marriage was not successful, which ended in a divorce.  This result made Pee Pen work  harder  twice times as a single mom to take care her son.   Finally, at Amphur Takli  base in Nakhon Sawan, Thailand, God sent Mr. Johnny Adams, the US Air Force officer, into Pee Pen’s life.   Therefore, Pee Pen, the alluring eyes woman from the south, came to start her new life in USA. Her new happy family home has been started in Alabama with Mr. John.  Besides her own son, Pee Pen also has another one beautiful daughter Thai-American, Tina.

Pee Pen had learned American cooking from her mother-in –law until she can remember all family’s recipes in her mind.  For Thai cooking, Pee Pen is also well-known in Thai southern style cooking.  Pee Pen love cooking, and everybody fall in love with her Thai taste food.  Her house later turned to a meeting center of her Thai friends and Thai students because of her caring and warming heart of friendship to everyone.

Besides cooking Thai food and gathering friends  at her home, Pee Pen often takes her food to visit Thai students at their dormitory because she realized that most students have to spend time and to work hard for their study  more than cooking, especially Thai food.  Pee Pen is a person who likes to give more than to take, and she never hesitates whenever friends need helps, she always be there for them.  Because of her strong belief in God, Pee Pen likes to share her Christian life and her experience about God that answers for her pray many times in different situations.  Love of God is the great love for all human and all creatures on this earth.  Although some friends may not understand and may not pay attention to Pee Pen’s words about God, but Pee Pen has never give up on her faith since she baptized and was born in Christian’s life.  Time cannot change her mind and her love in God, instead time build up her faith stronger and stronger every day.

Pee Pen also love and care for her family in Thailand, she put all of her effort in helping them to build their homes.  All of them live in the same town so that in case emergency they can be reach, and be help each other.    Whenever Pee Pen and I talk on the phone, she keeps repeat to me before ending our conversation that:

“If you have strong believe in God, it doesn’t matter how hard of your trouble you may have, God will take care of you in his own way, only you need is put your trust and faith in God”

Pee Pen likes to quote her favorite Bible reading :

John 3:16 New International Version (NIV)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

 John 16:33New International Version (NIV)

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Before Pee Pen went to hospital in January 2017, one of her close friend “Pee Aon” was sick and later died on January 9th 2017.  Pee Pen and I discussed how we could help Pee Aon’s  funeral as we are Thai people who far away from our homeland and live in the new culture, where is different than Thailand.  However, we only gave some money to Pee Aon’s family in helping her funeral, and we couldn’t do anything more than that.  Pee Aon’s funeral day was the same day that Pee Pen had to admitted at the hospital.  Finally, the diagnosis was come out and shocked Pee Pen’s family and friends, it was the brain cancer!  My crying heart mourn and keep ask God every day.  God, why is Pee Pen? Why have to be Pee Pen who has strong faith in God?  Why?  The bright and cheerful days have started to turn in blue day because every minute from now on no one knows how long the treatment will be, how is the final result of this treatment, and how much time left for us in having each other like this.   I wish time of our friendship be eternal, but only God can give me the answer.   Oh! Please God, please let Pee Pen have more time with us and please do not take away her from us yet.

However, Pee Pen seems not to worry much about her sickness and she seems to be strong in her hope and her heart still fulfill with faith in God as always.  One of her close friend who lives in Birmingham, Pee Dange,  is the one who comes in need for Pee Pen.   Pee Dange and her husband, Bob, have been assisted Pee Pen with all helps as much as the good friends can do to comfort and to take care PeePen during admission in the hospital. After doctor allowed Pee Pen to return home, but Pee Pen need to come back to hospital again for the chemotherapy from Monday to Friday.  During the week that Pee Pen had to travel forth and back between Hayden and Birmingham, Pee Dange opened her house to welcome PeePen and Mr.John to stop by for lunch with Thai food.  Pee Pen told me that Pee Dange is not just a good friend but also a sister, who born in different family.   God sends a good friend as Pee Dange to take care of Pee Pen in the time of need.  Oh! Thank you God.

When I was young, my father told me that:

“In the bad time and sickness you will learn who is a real friend and who the one stand by you with truly heart is”.

As same as PeePen has Pee Dange and many friends,  who support and encourage her to win the sickness and keep on hope for Pee Pen to get over the cancer.   We are the same feeling of worry and believe in this forever friendship, we must support and stand by each other in the difficult time as friends need friends.   Although PeePen’s body has to suffer from her sickness and treatment, but she never let time pass by with fear and worry, she starts in managing and giving all of her valuable items to her family as if she prepares to go back home sweet home.

Dear all friends, please keep our friendship, sincerity and love to go on, please share and support each other in need because this is the magic medicine in healing sickness and the best weapon in fighting all obstacles.    If all of this message will be useful for any one, please turn this benefit to the blessing for the treatment to be succeeded and bring Pee Pen (Mrs. Boorat Adams) back to be healthy again.

(P.S. the word “Pee” is a Thai pronoun for addressing a person who older than the speaker)
